Property Appraiser - Jefferson County
Meet Steve in Person

STANDING FOR COMMUNITY INTEGRITY

Property Appraiser is a Constitutional Officer, as established by

Article VIII of the Constitution of the State of Florida.

It is the duty of this office to determine the value of all property within the county,

including agricultural and religious use properties.

I will make sure the duties of this office are executed fairly and justly!

Politics Are Local

"Good 'ol boy" politics often perpetuate a system where connections and informal networks overshadow merit and transparency. This insular approach can lead to cronyism, where decisions favor a select few rather than the community at large. Such dynamics stifle diversity, hinder innovation, and often result in policies that serve the interests of entrenched powers rather than addressing the needs of the populace.

Let’s mobilize our community to vote for Steve Byers who prioritizes integrity, inclusivity, and accountability to disrupt any unfair entrenched systems. Vote Steve Byers for a fairness and constitutional justice every landowner and voter deserves.  Vote for a breath of fresh air and a new trust in local government.

Hot Issues

A county property appraiser plays a crucial role in shaping the community through their authority over bona fide use determinations. By assessing how properties are utilized—whether for residential, commercial, agricultural, religious or industrial purposes.  Fair and transparent determinations can encourage responsible development, promote economic growth, and enhance overall quality of life for residents.  Ultimately, the appraiser must support the land owners and the community in protecting constitutional property rights.

Your Pocket Book

A county property appraiser plays a critical role in determining the assessed value of properties within their jurisdiction, which directly impacts local property taxes. When the appraiser evaluates properties, they consider factors such as location, size, condition, and market trends.
If property values increase significantly or unfairly, homeowners may find themselves facing higher property tax bills, which can strain household budgets. This financial burden often affects voters’ decisions, as rising taxes can lead to calls for tax relief or changes in local government spending priorities.

Community Funding

Additionally, the work of a county property appraiser influences public funding for essential services, such as education, infrastructure, and public safety. A well-functioning appraisal system ensures that properties are valued fairly, promoting equitable tax contributions among residents. When voters perceive that property taxes are based on accurate assessments, they are more likely to support local initiatives and funding measures. Conversely, if appraisals are seen as inflated or unfair, it can lead to voter dissatisfaction, calls for reform, and potential challenges to local government policies.
